Many of the pro-cannabis users thought of it as a recreational pastime, as well as physicians who saw the benefits of the plant. The anti-cannabis views at the time thought it made people lazy, crazy, and bad people. In some of the first iterations of the war of cannabis, some Sultans even instituted a death penalty for using it. In the end however, hashish still grew more popular despite the efforts to eradicate it. Some things don’t seem to change.
