Flower Mixing

inhalation of flower, by combustion (smoking) or dry herb vaporization is the most popular and familiar route of administration. It has the advantages of a quick onset of effects which treats symptoms rapidly and makes dose titration simple and intuitive.
THC flower will be more effective when used with CBD for most conditions; flower can be used as a THC source with CBD and CBG tinctures.

Cannabis Flower: Obtained from the dispensary, the flower will contain a variety of terpenes, cannabinoids (mostly THC) and other chemicals that determine the effects produced. Most available strain cannabinoid profiles show THC as the primary cannabinoids present. Consider cannabis flower as a THC and terpene source. It is used on an as needed basis to control symptoms.

Terpenes: The selection of the most effective terpenes depends on the symptoms for which cannabis is being used. For the majority of patients, the “Indica terpenes” will be more effective at controlling symptoms. Indica terpene profiles will generally be better at treating pain, anxiety, inflammation, poor appetite and are more relaxing and sedating than Sativa terpenes. Sativa flower is more effective at treating nausea, improving mental focus and depression, but is more likely to cause anxiety than Indica.

Indica terpenes include all the terpenes, except Pinene and Limonene which can be considered “Sativa terpenes.” Most cannabis will have a variety of terpenes present: Indica flower has the Indica terpenes as dominant, Sativa flower is dominant in Sativa terpenes.

CBD Flower: Also known as hemp flower, is cannabis which produces primarily the CBD cannabinoid as well as terpenes. It contains less than 0.3% THC and is federally legal. Consider CBD flower as a CBD source. Terpene selection will be the same as for THC flower. CBD flower can be used alone for some symptoms, but the use of THC with CBD will be more effective.

CBG Flower: Strains which produce CBG exclusively have been cultivated. These will also contain terpenes. It contains less than 0.3% THC and is federally legal. Terpene selection will be the same as for THC flower. CBG is used with CBD and THC flower for severe inflammatory conditions and is particularly useful in patients suffering autoimmune conditions. The combination of CBD and CBG is also effective for anxiety symptoms and many patients report it has mood stabilizing effects.
