A person’s heart rate is known to transiently increase after use and it has been suggested that this may make a cannabis user more likely to suffer a heart attack. A recent study published in the American Journal of Medicine looked at longer term changes. Current cannabis use was actually associated with lower resting heart rates although past cumulative cannabis use was not associated with this change. The article is another in the growing body of evidence suggesting that cannabis use is not associated with deleterious cardiovascular effects.
